STUDENT ADVISORY

All entering sixth and ninth graders are assigned to small advisory groups (10-15 students), with which they remain throughout the rest of their years at Bronx Letters. Advisors at Bronx Letters are the first line of contact for students and their families. They serve as advocates, coaches, record-keepers, and cheerleaders for both students and parents. Sixth grade advisories meet in the morning for breakfast and a brief planning session, and again in the afternoon for academic support services and book circles.  Ninth grade advisories meet once daily in the afternoon for academic support services and peer- and teacher-facilitated independent reading. The chief goal of advisory is to facilitate the development of these "academic readiness" skills, and to provide a venue to encourage individual accountability for performance.

Additionally, the primary link between the school and parents is through the advisors. Advisors are intimately familiar with their advisees' achievements and needs and make regular phone calls home to give parents a report on their child's progress.
