PORTFOLIOS Students at the Bronx Academy of Letters must complete a portfolio each year. Portfolios include major pieces of work from each class; published work from the school's literary journal or newspaper; and a written reflection generated by the student on his or her progress in school. Students write a guided self-assessment and evaluate their classes, describe what they enjoyed, didn't enjoy, found difficult, and deemed most beneficial. Portfolios will also reflect the college-bound curriculum of the school. Students get substantial assistance while creating their portfolios. Their advisors work with them to create individual plans. These plans evaluate each student's strengths and weaknesses and set goals for each student to meet in coming marking periods. Student portfolios will be assessed by grade teams and are presented within the advisory groups. In addition, at the end of the year, the school holds a celebration. At this culminating event, students will share their work with the school, parents, and community. |
