Graduation3

Each credit a high school student earns represents a semester-long academic course. You can earn credits for each class you pass each semester, including a half credit for seminar. You also earn half credits for physical education and creative arts.

To graduate in New York State, you must earn 44 credits in academic subjects and pass five Regents exams: English Language Arts, Algebra, Global History, U.S. History, and a lab science.

You must also take physical education for seven semesters, which earns you 4 credits.

In all grades 9-12, you will have the opportunity to take elective courses in all disciplines, including high school and college readiness prep courses.  These electives will help prepare you for college seminars and will count toward your graduation requirements for both core disciplines and elective credits.

[1] Students who score a 65 or better on the 8 Regents exams listed and receive the required credits for the New York State Regents diploma, will get a New York State Advanced Regents diploma if they fail to get the 52 credits required for the Bronx Letters diploma.

[2] This requirement is contingent on the Arts offerings that were available to students.

[3] Students will earn two credits through advisory in grade 9 and .5 credits each semester thereafter, which will total five elective credits.
