LITERARY MAGAZINE

Our students are proud to have created six semiannual issues of One Pen, the Bronx Letters literary magazine. Many of the talented students here at Bronx Letters have submitted their dazzling work to inspire the creative minds of their peers.

The latest issue of One Pen includes a series of poetry, prose, short stories, and pictures that characterize the true skills of our student body. These pieces represent our perspective as innovative young people looking toward the future. As always, we have a collection of different voices from gifted writers and artists. These pieces touch on topics from politics to emotions, from religion to personal obstacles.

After last semester's successful issue, our expectations have increased. Every piece that was submitted to One Pen was thoughtfully considered. We've worked hard to put together a magazine the whole school can enjoy.

The Literary Magazine staff would like to thank all those who submitted their wonderful work to this semester's issue. We want to encourage all students to submit their best work to One Pen next year. We hope you enjoy.

Sincerely, The Editors

Featured piece:

It Shall Linger
By Raquel Adunum

I whisper the words
Lightly, gently
"I'll never let you go."
Never say never, but one never knows
My intentions are obvious
I need you in my life
I'll go to any extent
Just say the words
Because in the end it'll all be worthwhile
I try not to make any mistakes
So we wouldn't have to start over
Because life is pretty short and I'm getting older
Let this love linger sweetly
Like the faint smell of mango
On hot Spanish summer evenings
Let emotion
Find its way into that special chamber
Maintaining its own rhythmic beats
Let us be bonded
By soothing words
Escaping our lips
Let us be combined
Love passed through our bodies
By connected fingertips
Let this adolescent romance
Evolve into an adult love story
Let the letters J and K be written on the front cover
Have a meaning that stands on its own
To be left
Until we revisit the tall tale
Together
Years from now...
It shall linger
